@Warrior Silver let's see what is more important for nofax djokovic. His obsession for records with his boring ass style. Or not get a vaccination not being able to play in Australia. If he stay true to his beliefs and still not be willing to get vaccinated and is banned from the ao I will have huge respect for him. If he let himself get vaccinated just to be able to play there he will be the djoke of the century for me. But he will probably make a false vaccination pass with his millions of dollars . That is what I'm waiting for to find out.

@M Subhas Bharani But people say this about almost all the top guys. It's surface-dependent. For Roger on grass, yes. For Nadal on clay, yes (and he doesn't even have to be GOAT level to be unplayable). When Djoker plays as he did those first two sets of AO16 SF, he's unplayable on that surface, yes.
M Subhas Bharani
M Subhas Bharani Vor 6 Monate
My bro, Dhrubo. Will all due respect, and Novak and Rafa are entitled to that 1 million percent, a fully zoned-in Rog is impossible to beat. It's like Brazil of football. Of they're fully dialled in then that's game, set, mach, tourney. Or something like the Windies from 60s-80s of cricket.
Abhi Vor 6 Monate
That's the thing with him. He only plays as good he needs to play in order to win since his resurgence. He doesn't use as much energy as he used to in every match, but only in big matches- vs Rafa at RG, vs Medvedev in AO finals, Berrettini in latter stage. This is why he's never unlike in his 20s.
SJ Vor 6 Monate
@Bluz That’s kinda harsh. Thiem, Tsitsipas and Medvedev have probably played Djokovic just as well as Del Potro or Murray. It’s just the latter two tend to choke most of the time they take the lead at a grand slam; Thiem has been better but even he’s had some letdowns in the past.

I just feel like tennis has never been played better. I am pretty sure that in 20 years time we ll all look back and still be amazed by these guys abilities
bigrobsydney Vor 2 Monate
@fundhund62 Tennis OLA says you are wrong. On top of that, 35 years ago, players were simply incapable of rallying at the level of today. For exactly the reason you mention; rackets didnt have the sweet spots like today, so if a point went very long, inevitably a shot would miss the sweet spot eventually. Players today "bash" as you say, because they are so good from the back, that coming to the net is a real risk of being passed. Add to this, courts have ben slowed down, so the payback from attacking the net is less to begin with. No, in "the old days", we had faster courts, worst rackets, so the points were over more quickly, often between players who werent that great at ground strokes. Todays players are better in EVERY way.
fundhund62 Vor 2 Monate
@tvtotalforever You probably haven't watched more than two or three short clips from the 80s. Connors and Lendl serve-and-volleyed? On "almost every single point"? Not even Becker or Sampras did that on any other surface but grass, at least not most of the time. Wilander and Mecir played "forward tennis"? And yeah, Wilander, Nyström, Jarryd, Connors, Steeb, Krickstein, Agassi and their famous one-handers.. The difference is those guys were CAPABLE of volleying well. Watching the "Big 3" volley is laughable in comparison. In the words of Boris Becker, out of those three "only Federer would have been able to compete" in his time, and that sounds like a fair assesment. I doubt Nadal or Djokovic would have reached a Wimbledon final in the 1980s, let alone win the title (multiple times). But anyway, all you can do is beat who is in front of you, and these guys have been doing it for many years. I certainly don't blame Nadal or Djokovic for playing in the most one-dimensional era professional tennis ever had. Cheers.
tvtotalforever Vor 2 Monate
@fundhund62 not trying to argue either, but they all played foward tennis - most of them one handed. It was serving and trying to come in as fast as possible almost every single point. You mean the double handers of f.e. thiem, tsitsipas, musetti, evans, dimitrov, shapovalov and more? Even in that group you ve got vastly different game styles. From Evans cat and mouse game to dimitrovs physical counter tennis over thiems absolute power game to stefs foward charging aggression. Tennis has become more physical and the margins have become smaller. You cant play without power and pressure anymore. Mc enroe creeping into the net on a heavy handed half volley would get eaten alive nowadays
fundhund62 Vor 2 Monate
@tvtotalforever I appreciate different opinions, and really don't want to argue. But saying in the 80s styles were similar is laughable 😂 Who else played like Connors? McEnroe? Mecir? Edberg? Cash? Korda? Becker? Leconte? Jelen? Steeb? Carlsson? Wilander? Jarryd? Sampras? Noah? Today? Just look around, man. Double-handed backhands, semi-western forehands, grinding from the baseline, bad volleys. And not much else.
tvtotalforever Vor 2 Monate
@fundhund62 i could point to a houndred other clips where he redefines movements on an open stretch split backhand after a full sprint across the baseline in full balance. Look i don't argue tennis is less vertical and more horizontal these days - some find it more attractive, others are bored by it. When i watch federer f.e. i am amazed by the contrast between the blistering speed and power mixed with those flashes of touch and delicassy. The spectrum is much broader. When i watch 80s tennis these days, everything just feels kina slow and methodic. Back then everbody used to play very similar to one another as well.

@DDT888 What are you talking about??..Nadal beat Federer first meeting?...Was owning him right out of the gate...Federer had to adjust to him?....
DDT888 Vor 5 Monate
@Kev R he didn't improve. Lol. His absolute peak was 2007. What are you talking about? Those dudes are 5 and 6 years younger than him. They learned the game and predicated their styles around beating him. 5 and 6 years is a lifetime in tennis. One is 11 and the other is already a pro. You clearly don't know the game if you think Nadal and Novak didn't know they would have to contend with Federer. He set the standard for them. Nadal was beating Federer out of the gate because he constructed a shot specifically made for him and his one handed backhand. Once Federer figured it out, Nadal hasn't beaten him in 5 years and is 1-7 in their last 8. 5 of them are straight set annihilations. Good day.
Kev R
Kev R Vor 5 Monate
@DDT888 Nadal adjusted to Federer????...Nadal was beating him on all surfaces out of the gate?....No Nadal equals Fed doesn't need to improve his backhand or go to a bigger racket...No Nadal or Djokovic equals Federer has no peers and retires with 15-16 majors...They all helped each other become better...Federer moved to a more attacking style for longevity plus it was his best chance...You say Federer set the standard?...Well he improved and couldn't beat Djokivic...Im a huge Nadal fan but I will admit that Djokivic is the GOAT...His shoulder injury 2017-2018 allowed Fed and Nadal to grab a few more slams...His top level 2011..2016..2021 insane!!!!..
DDT888 Vor 5 Monate
@Kev R wrong, Roger was already there. Novak and Nadal don't reach this level if Roger didn't exist. Did Roger improve? Of course. The back hand for Nadal, the shortening of points and attacking even more for Novak, but Roger birthed both of them. Roger made Nadal focus on the heavy rotation forehand. He birthed Novak in the US open with that return. Both of them used him to progress. He was already there.

The title should be Tennis nearer the gods. Their level of play is just insane. Roger vs Rafa is like graceful matador vs raging bull Novak vs Roger is Variant attacker vs Defensive machine Novak vs Rafa is a slugfest between heavyweights All are great, its just matter of preference. There is no right or wrong answer when picking between these legends.
mantaishere Vor 5 Monate
@Marko Toshich Think you are tad sensitive there. Machine is to do with his ability to consistently keep the ball deep and to go into lockdown mode when things get tight. I don't think it necessarily detracts from the skill required or his physical attributes. And it says nothing about his character or personality. Edit: Can see your point about robot, though.
Marko Toshich
Marko Toshich Vor 6 Monate
To summarise you analysis: 1. Roger is gracefull matador and variant attacker, 2. Rafa is ragging bull and slugish heavyweight, and 3. Nole is defensive machine and slugish heavyweight. It is not nice and not correct to call Rafa ragging bull when he is one of the most composed tennis players. It is not nice and not correct to dehumanize Novak and call him machine (or wall, or robot, or whatever media narrative was labeling him) when he is one of the most empathic and genuinly nice humans among tennis players. Comparing Rafa and Nole to slugish heavyweights is not possible as they are some of the best moving and most skilled tennis players and defenders. What Rafa and Nole have in addition to being good humans is strong hearts. Two lions they are.

@Делије Врбас Roddick is 5-4 v Djoker. Fed is 3-0 v Murray in slam finals and has one loss to both Murray and Wawrinka in slams. But you knew that, didn't you? Strange timeframe, but Nadal beat Fed in their first two slam matches and reached W finals 3 straight years, eventually winning in 2008. Djoker reached the final of the USO in 2007 and, as Djoker Bois keep reiterating, had multiple SPs. Is this not competing? And this: Well, yes. They would beat each other. Winner depends on surface, mostly.

@Brad Morris nadal doesnt need anything else. He already created a legacy at the Roland Garros. The grand slam tally of the other 2 players will one day be broken , but Nadal's record of 13 French open slams will stay unbeatable for centuries atleast. What he achieved was just unbelievable. French open might as well consider to change their name as Nadal open. He is legedary at french open.
Brad Morris
Brad Morris Vor 6 Monate
@karan S I am a fan of Roger over Nadal, but you are quite right on this point - Nadal is the bridge between the Federer and Djokovic prime years, and he was/is the primary competition for both of them, winning as many slams as either of those two. One could argue that Nadal is the only one of the three who has had to endure an entire career of beating prime Federer or Djokovic. Federer had pre-Nadal years, while Djokovic has/will have post Nadal. I don't think that matters much, though - just because you're not facing Nadal doesn't mean you're not facing another champion. Federer had his hands full in the pre-Nadal years, and so will Djokovic once Nadal hangs them up.

3 Lions and Legends:-) what a privilege to watch them. I remember when this kid Federer was on the court and collected the GS like I panini sticker. I thought this will never be reached by anyone. Then. The Torero from Spain comes into the game and I remember how often Feder suddenly losses against nadal . I thought what the hell is here going on how can this be real (I mean this is Federer)… Then a new name is coming up from nowhere, his name the 🃏. I thought never ever he will reached the level of those two protagonists. And then this 2011 year comes and the ultimate Terminator year of tennis was shown by this 🃏 and again I thought never ever this would be repeated. And then 2015 and 2016 the same Terminator with upgraded software was entering the dance floor and collected all 4 GS at the same time. And again again I thought this can’t be repeated, now we are in 2021 and i couldn’t describe this performance, we are possibly will see a Golden grand slam from this joker by breaking all records in tennis. It's insane to me how many people romanticize the serve and volley era when we can get points like this in the modern era. The natural evolution of players developing superior physicality and endurance is longer, more intense tennis. And it's not even that serve and volley doesn't exist anymore, it's just used much more sparingly and more tactically than prior. Overall, especially with the big three tennis is more exciting than ever before.

When I enjoyed tennis it was mostly a serve & volley game. I witnessed greats like Becker, Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Rafter, Rios, Kuerten...The game changed so much, not a big fan anymore. But kudos to these three, best ever I gotta say.

Hate to admit being underdog much better than being favorite. no pressure at all, you can give the best without afraid to lose. Novak get benefits from it.

I wonder how next gen is going to respond to the quality of tennis of Novak. First Roger sets the level of tennis so high, that only two players reached it, and now Novak is doing it with the new generation. What will be the product of this?
Vairagya Vor 5 Monate
They have equally popularised and destroyed tennis at the same time. This generation of crowd has been spoilt by the quality of last two decades of tennis. Nobody can enjoy the normal tennis that we see now. This year had the least interesting Wimbledon apart from the Federer's matches( since fans were routing for him) . No player could even extract more than 60% of Djokovic's potential. Only fed and nadal could bring out his A-game on a consistent basis. Tennis is over for atleast few years.

Federer - most beautiful Nadal - biggest fighter Djokovic - absolutely clinical Federer/Nadal is a battle of styles, Djokovic/Federer is offense vs. defense and Nadal/Djokovic is nothing else than war. I don't care who will have the most slams when they retire, Tennis will forever have three GOATS.
