I know everyone has different opinions, but the full movie isn't out yet and almost no one is willing to give it a chance. I mean come on, your judging it based on the trailer and because it's live action. When Kingdom hearts 3 opening theme song came out in the trailer, some people judge it and the full song hadn't come out at time, rather want a remix of the ending theme. But when it did came out, people all of sudden change their minds. Once the whole movie come out, what are you going to say about it then?

Actually, you missed THE MOST IMPORTANT reason why Disney has been remaking its animated classic into live-action films. Disney was actually FORCED by Warner Brothers and other Hollywood studios into remaking its animated classics into live-action. Warner Bros and other studios were planning to remake all the Disney animation into live-action films, BEFORE Disney had thought about it. Those other studios wanted to get "free rides" out of the nostalgia and popularity of Disney's classic animated films. If you do a little research, you would find out that the live-action Beauty and the Beast actually started as a WARNER BROTHERS project, long before Disney even had a plan for a remake. Warner Bros were going to make a live-action MUSICAL Beauty and the Beast, and Emma Watson was in talk with Warner to to play Belle. The "musical" part was a clear sign that Warner was going to get a free ride out of the nostalgia for and popularity of the Disney's animated classic. Of course Disney had to react. Then, Disney somehow just swooped in and took Emma Watson from Warner, which pretty much stalled Warner's project. If Disney was not going to remake Beauty and the Beast, then Warner would. Disney had every reason to do it - certainly just to stop and spite Warner. Then there was Warner Bros' live-action version of The Jungle Book. The Warner's live-action project actually started BEFORE Disney's version, but Disney was able to complete and release its live-action Jungle Book first before Warner. That pretty much KILLED Warner's Jungle Book, and forced Warner to dump its Jungle Book to Netflix. Again, Disney OUTPLAYED Warner. Universal was going to make a live-action musical version of the Little Mermaid, with Chloë Grace Moretz attached to play Aria. Again, that was long before Disney started its streak of successful remakes. The Universal project is currently dead after Disney started its own live-action remake project. There are a few other similar projects at other studios. You can google them. So, here is the truth: the other studios pretty much FORCED Disney's hand. Warner Bros, Universal, and the other studios wanted to get free rides out of the nostalgia and popularity of Disney animated classics . So Disney had to ACT first to stop those other studios from stealing. Warner Brothers, Universal and other studio pretty much forced Disney's hand. Ironically, after Disney started the remakes, those movies have turned out to be a huge money makers for Disney; on the other hand, all those other projects at the other studios: they are all dead, dead, dead.

When you say the CGI is these new live action films looks worse then the original animation that's a matter of perspective. I agree will smiths genie looks like shit but that's five seconds in a trailer who knows how he will look. You keep saying the visuals look bad and that is legitimately an opinion and to an extent I agree but I feel like your pessimistic about all these films. Try and be a little more positive.

It might be better if they applied the cgi remakes on films that didn’t do as well the first time. A live action Atlantis: the Lost Empire, for instance, would be a thing of beauty. Imagine that, directed by Guillermo del Toro, leaning on the style of Mike Mignola.

I think I would like Disney to do a live action adaption of Gargoyles, since there’s a chance for that to be more unique and novel, instead all these uninspiring live action remakes.

Why should Disney stop? As someone who loved the originals, i honestly found most of the live action *_adaptations_* pretty good in their own right. A remake isn't saying that the original is inferior, needs correcting or doesn't count, people.

TheScienceofnature
I disagree that these remakes are to bring it to a new audience or any reason that isn't money. These films made a fortune when they were released, the studios think they can get a lot of money for less effort since there is less input costs. The story is there, the picture is of lower quality, same songs, the older version itself is marketing...etc. Just repackage the same old stuff and sell it as new.

So many people in the comments are coming here to complain about Will Smith's Genie. Not one of you have thought about the fact that he was a close friend to Robin Williams. He knew him better than any of the 1000's of people who are complaining like spoiled children about him being the Genie in the new movie. No, he's not THE Genie, but you aren't considering that NO ONE could EVER do what Robin Williams did with this character. Will has already made the statement that he is not going to be like the Genie that we know and remember, he will be his OWN Genie in honor of his friend Robin. Isn't that the point? To honor him? We honor those we love and those we cherish who are no longer with us, but we don't go around PRETENDING to BE them, or Pretending that we can do the things they did. Robin Williams would not want us to be appalled at who is playing the Genie, be it Will Smith or some other actor. He would want us to ENJOY IT REGARDLESS! All of you out there who are getting on your high horses about this need to Sit Down and reflect on how you treat others if THIS is your reaction to the Genie reveal. If you think you know better, than get off your ass and go make a Movie, then come back and tell me how it went, because I can guarantee that it will be just as much a failure as you are in this moment. Poor Robin is rolling in his grave because of idiots like you. R.I.P. Robin, Your missed more than you know.

Cinderella and Jungle book thus far were really the only ones i enjoyed. Cinderella because they made it way more original and unique then i had expected, and the fact that they showed the strength of a young woman in an abusive situation who still maintained who she was despite everything. Jungle Book... I was just happy they followed the book more than the original animation. Maleficent I'm putting into a different category cause while it was a live action re-make, and unfortunately the bad reputation of the lead star factored into its reviews, I don't consider it a remake but a retelling of a story that has been told a million times over the years. As for Aladdin... that trailer made me cringe, and all of it because of the genie. I'm sorry but Will Smith is never going to live up to Robin Williams as a genie. I was hoping they would take this re-make closer to what Maleficent had done... but as you stated we have a re-make just not animated... joy.

It has that same overproduced, overloud, overbearing look of the other live action and classic film remakes, and will settle at the bottom of the Disney pond with Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins Returns. Especially Dream works, the best work personally I think they've done out of their films? Are, *Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, The Road to El Dorado, and of course The Prince Of Egypt.* It is phenomenal, *The Prince Of Egypt* has far been the best ever animated movie I have ever watched in my whole life, I cannot compare it to any other film I have seen because it just has a spark that no other movie has, personally to me. Ever since I was a kid. And the huge sudden realization that they will never bring back movies like these anymore? Makes me feel so heart sick, the feeling is so awful xD Even if they tried, the quality wouldn't be the same. I just, aw man.. :(

This is like trying to compare the comic book superheroes of our childhood to today's Marvel or DC cinematic universes. Your pushing a boulder uphill. Marvel and now Disney is making BILLIONS of bucks with live action comic superheroes so it was inevitable they would live action their cartoon movies. It is all about the benjamins!!!

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about these Disney live action remakes. There are things I like about some of them, such as the cgi in the Jungle Book(which I love, dont hate me). But most of the time, I feel like these remakes are made carelessly. I also think that Disney mostly cares about the money instead of making a good live action film. Like I said. I’m mixed on the remakes. I WANT to like these films. I really do.

From She-Ra to thundercats to live action Disney movies. Crying over kids movies really discredits fans when we have legit gripes. Kids like the movies/shows so who cares????? Why is it not a net positive if the target audience likes it, it makes money, and employs people?

I think it was Walt Disney's wish that the movies will be remade once in a while so that every generation of kids can enjoy it. However this was before you could rewatch any movie at any time, Atm remakes kinda feel like they are only made for the the profit. I really wish Disney would try to tell new stories, even if it's just told from a different perspective like Maleficent. Personally I don't care whether it's gonna be through CGI or the classic animation, both have their pros and cons. Also I don't think Disney should stop making these traditional 2D animated movies cause The Princess and the Frog which is quite recent, turned out imo pretty well and became one of my personal favourites.

I agree with basically all of this video, but I think there is one couple points missing. There are people excited about seeing live action remakes of movies like mulan to see more diverse actors/actress (though it seems especially silly when the casts Disney have found are the more popular actors people already know). IF the studio were to make films like that to increase diversity in actors/actresses it could be a powerful effect similar to how making Moana was powerful as it shows children a broader range of cultures, peoples, and ideas (even through I shall live forever pissed at Disney for essentially stealing the classics of the brothers grimm and others while pretending they somehow should own all rights to things they didn't make or come up with). Also the potential good/bad of the remakes for some of the classics like Dumbo is to make them more child appropriate and culture appropriate. The reason I say Dumbo is because of the crows of course. They were racial stereotypes and there could be some benefit to having a version without those unacceptable ideas for kids too young to understand the harm they can cause. Although, it should never be forgotten that the classic disney films and cartoons were a product of their time the danger is in sweeping past incidence like that under the proverbial rug. Also, it can be helpful for people to have clear examples of past racist/sexist/etc ideas to have them as examples to talk about and to keep in mind into the future to hopefully cause people to stop and think before being a bigoted a** (like Walt himself seems so clearly to have been). Side note: FUCK YOU DISNEY FOR BEING A TERRIBLE EMPLOYER AND RUINING THE LIVES OF MANY PEOPLE WHO WORK/WORKED FOR YOU. Can't wait til the company gets replaced by something better and less horrendous to it's workers in literally every section of the company except for the "top."

Nick Sorenson I’m aware of that film’s existence but I’ve never seen it. Is the plot the same? In any case the actual story of the little mermaid is much older than the cartoon movie 80’s and 90’s kids grew up with. There was another cartoon version of it that tells the story in its original form and it’s way less happy than the Disney version. Basically in the end she gets told she needs to kill Eric or his new wife (I forget which) or she’ll turn into foam. She chooses the bubble life obviously but gets rewarded for her sacrifice and gets turned into some sort of angel or something. It was a weird movie.
