I stumbled upon a company that mails German food right to your door! Is the food authentic?? Watch to find out!
Hi! I'm Kelly and I am an American who lived in Germany for 18 wonderful months. While I lived abroad before in Turkey and had done quite a bit of traveling beforehand, those 18 months in Germany definitely broadened my perspective of Germany, Europe, and even the US in so many different ways! I wanted to share my perceptions with you guys through DE-vid so that maybe you can gain context to things you've heard about, or learn new information or a different perspective, or maybe this is everything you've heard before and further confirms your world view. No matter what the reason, I hope that you enjoy my videos! Don't forget to subscribe to my channel and turn on notifications so that you always know when I'm posting new content :)

Sauerkraut is made with white wine often. Making it with "champagne" is a variation on the recipe. German mustard sold in South Africa in the same mug is generally not very hot. English mustard is generally comparable to wasabi or horseradish. BTW you can drink cold beverages from the mustard mug but be careful pouring hot water in it as it may crack. Great show!

Nimm2, I think that's very retro... I had it back in the early infant 80's. I think it was quite tangy with the filling but a bit too orange peel/rind tasting. I like mustard being strong like wasabi.

+Kelly does her thing So actually during the time this meat cooked on cylindrical cones was invented Turkey didnt even exist, because it was still the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, when the "Döner Kebab" was 'invented'
Kelly does her thing
When you just say Döner or Döner Kebab, it refers to the meat itself that’s cooked on the cylindrical cone and that was invented in Turkey... unless you’re a German speaking to only Germans in which it then refers to the very specific sandwich comprised on the meat which yes, was invented in Germany. I lived in Turkey and every time a german says that Döner was invented in Germany, I tweak a little. It would be like Chicago claiming they invented the hot dog or NYC claiming they invented pizza

The video was fun to watch. Thank you! Most probably you have already tasted the maultaschen (hope you liked them, there are quite nice), but you may not know the story behind them. They were invented in a small monastry next to Kalrsuhe called Kloster Maulbronn. The alternative name for them are "herrgottsbescheißerle" or "betrayers of god" (if you would translate it directly). The problem was that christians in germany classically were not allowed to eat meat on fridays, only fish. So the monks covered the meat in dough so that god could not see the meat anymore. With that they were also able to eat meat on fridays. At least that is the legend spinning around this dish. And BTW: If you are ever near Kalrsruhe and have a one or two hours to spare Kloster Maulbronn is also worth a visit.

Come on, dude. We all do this. Yes, German food is a more complex thing than Americans think but that's because every country's food is more complex than we think. You've eaten pizza and pasta and think therefore you know Italian food? You know no more than 10%. You've had a pastie and a full English breakfast and you think you know about British food? You don't. Stop bashing Americans! It's f***ing rude. Apart from that a lot of Bavarian food is popular all over Germany. Bretzn, Obazda and Weißwürscht are available in every supermarket in the country these days. So get over yourself. Also kind of ironic that your user name is a stereotype of a Native American from stories written by a German who had never been to the US, played by a Frenchman and filmed in Yugoslavia. And you demand that Americans know more about Germany...

Döner ≠ Kebab! Kebab aka Gyros aka Shawarma was lamb or pork bits on a horizontal spit over fire, eaten on a plate, with the usual sides (salad, bread, rice?), and typical for the entire region. Döner was based on it, but invented in Germany. The changes was adding typical German cabbage, a different sauce and putting it in Arabic flatbread unknown in Turkey. *Then, and this is key,* Döner got imported back to Turkey, and adapted back to Turkish tastes again! So to say that that last variety is the original, is really quite silly. As silly as the obsessive Turkish nationalists that thump their chests every damn time anyone mentions Döner being a German thing.

I might not be an expert on fermentation, but if there's mold on it, it's probably done wrong. One of the difficulties in fermentation is keeping it sterile and clean enough for molds not to form in the first place. molds create poisons that remain in the food. You should not eat anything that had mold on it. ever.
Saphira Tamaki
Saphira Tamaki Vor 4 Monate
I know, just wanted to make clear that your last sentence isnt that true^^
liquidminds
liquidminds Vor 4 Monate
Saphira Tamaki Yes. noble mold. that's the one that does not create stuff that is poisonous for us and therefor is edible. fermentation is a process, usually done by yeast, which is also a fungus, but not a mold. So when you have mold on fermented stuff, that's usually not a good thing. Just like with beer, wine and other fermented alcoholic beverages, once you got mold it's not a good thing anymore.
Saphira Tamaki
Saphira Tamaki Vor 4 Monate
liquidminds Well, there is edible mold. Probably Not the one she mentioned, but Im not a expert. But there are many cheeses, ham and sausages (mostly Salami) made with a special mold. Its not Dangerous and gives the whole thing a nutty flour. Many French Salami, Camembert, blue cheese/Gorgonzola are just a few examples
