Thank you so much to DE-vid for making it possible to produce this important episode of Middle Ground. We want to say thank you to our participants but also to our audience for always enabling respectful and meaningful conversation in our comments. We know this discussion does not address all aspects or perspectives of this very deep and historical conflict, but we did our best to represent as many perspectives as we could. For those of you that don’t know, Jubilee's philosophy for Middle Ground is to bring people together and have an open dialogue in order to develop a deeper sense of understanding and empathy. We hope you all enjoy :) If you felt as moved as we did by the conversation, please share the video to as many people as you can!

@Squeenlet 123 werent jews the only volk had never a country but lived in each country and live allways antisemitism??? If he arabs expelled them why did they sell them areas. Europeans created concentration camps but aabs are the enemy or what ahahaha all is so absurd. Their families comes from europe not middle east.

@L duh It is our Land, fir 2000 years everyone told us to go back to where we came from. The Iraqis said go back to Jerusalem, the Germans called us Levantine Foreigners. Now we are back and people still aren't happy. We don't go anywhere, we stay in this land. Your logic can be applied to the Palestinians as well, majority of them migrated recently but still somehow, they have much more of a claim than the indigenous population? While their names are Syrian and Saudi? Their dialect Jordanian? Their culture Iraqi, Egyptian and Lebanese? Ridiculous.

@taq Theres mind engineering for you. They could have easily brought any one of the thousands of Israelis that lost someone by the hands of a Palestinian and give you emotional connection to the Israeli side. Serving in the IDF is required by law, so someone being in the IDF means nothing really.

@Ofri Kirshen Oh, there are solutions alright. But an unfortunate truth about life is the fact that very often, no amount of solutions can help if people don't want to use them. As long as hardliners on both sides dictate the diplomacy by using their power, this conflict is doomed to last. And you can't simply take them out of the equation because they are extremely embedded in the local culture and power structure. My guess? This conflict will continue to linger for a while but eventually, the people in charge will have changed, literally, not metaphorically, allowing for solutions to actually be implemented. It would be easy to split the country in two and to create two separate nations. In theory. In reality, they still both harbour to many stuborn folks who won't accept any compromise. Unless this changes; this war will go on for generations to come.

Really? She didn't say anything with substance... I actually rolled my eyes when she said "empathy"... Yes, empathy is important, but everything has a time and a place. If you don't agree with someone and ask them what they base their belief, listen to them and engage them appropriately to their answer. Bleeding hearts are a dime a dozen, they don't give me hope at all. What would give me hope is someone who is intellectual, strategical, but not void of empathy.

Hello, I'm Zainab from Gaza, I watched this video And I would like to say that peace between Palestine and the Israeli occupation is not something that we can discuss about the blood of the Palestinians for 73 years. The massacres carried out by the occupation cannot be forgotten, the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the Deir Yassin massacre, in which only one child remained from an entire village and the many massacres that exterminated him Entire villages, you can search for these massacres. The word peace should not come out of the mouths of the Israelis. I know that Palestine will get freedom. It is only a matter of time. I hope to be alive at that time. I understand the ideological differences between the two groups and I personally cannot agree with how Palestinians have been treated since the Israeli settlement but at the same time, I sympathise with the idea of wanting to have a homeland for themselves among Israelis. These are written by the colonizers....why don't you include Palestinian reports? These look just like the reports of Native Americans pre-colonization too, the ones written by the colonizers. I hope Israel is compensating you nicely for the amount of boot licking you are doing in the name of a settler-colonial apartheid state. Read some, literally any, history books written by a Palestinian who experienced the colonization and forced displacement themself. Or is it too hard to confront yourself with these perspectives outside of DE-vid comments? Would it be too difficult to listen to the genocide and slaughtering of a people you've been bred to hate and dehumanize in order to justify the crimes against humanity constantly committed for no reason other than colonial power. I hope those books give you some humanity and self-awareness
Sabrina Naser
Sabrina Naser Vor year
@Sophie Levant There are photos showing Palestine had all of the things I mentioned. Again, Sophie, your racism is blaring when you reduce an entire history of a peoples to "breeding camels". But *even* if breeding camels Was the only thing they did (it's not), it still is not and was not Israel's to colonize. Just because an area did not match your white and western idea of a country, ie the only way the western world is able to see them as humans, does not mean the people or the land are yours to colonize. this argument is tired. We can see it everywhere. In pre-colonized Africa, in pre-colonized America, pre-colonized Australia, etc etc this exact same argument has been used. I have a feeling we both know whose side you'd be on in these settler-colonial situations..... the colonizer

Ran and Arab’s dialogue at times reminds me of a video from 1955 shot in America during an international school exchange program (its on DE-vid but I don’t have the link handy) that occurred for a few years. They had a boy from Israel and a boy from Egypt talking and they ended up in an argument over territory. They’re not in exactly the same situation as these two, but it’s very interesting how in 70 years the issue they were discussing is still so similar

There are so many things that they share that I am not educated enough to talk about or praise to the level they deserve. But I must say this is such a packed and rich episode of discussion that makes me feel more educated after watching, I enjoy how well Jubilee acts as an educated window to knowledge that people like to me who have no easy way to learn more on conflicts & how they massively effects the people who live through the associated experiences on each episode. I aswell find it reliable with how they approach presenting the broad information with the intense amount of research, when most times all they ask are the beginning questions. Those prompts must have alot of time taken in considering how to word and present the question in a manner to respect all parties being asked. The generosity of the host of such discussion is inspiringly refreshing. You guys even served a meal afterward aswell in the 'interracial couples' episode, I know merch isn't much but you gave them something for their time, & the offer of a meal after such discussions with such heavy topics, it must feel nice to receive something simple and uplifting afterward. I praise Jubilee's compassion & sensitivity to all they bring on the show.

20:57 When Dorit corrects herself and says your sister was murdered instead of your sister passed away, that really gave me hope. I think Arab's story helped her understand the Palestinian's suffering better and have more compassion towards them instead of fear. Having compassion for people is the most important thing and I hope the guy in the suit, Ran I think, can also see it from their perspective one day. This video is really beautiful and emotional, so much love and hurt at the same time. I hope things get better in the future.

@Ananth S Kumar I'd rather suffer by their hands then by the hands of palestinian leadership, who I'd blame a lot more for the conflict. Don't understand me wrong though, I'm not saying IDF, or the jews are perfect. Sure not. I don't trust them 100%, nor anyone. But the thing is, I trust them way more then the Palestinian leadership and I think the extremist zionists are less extremist then the extremist mujihadeen, and yet very reproved by their own group, differently from the second one. If I love enjoying a country where things work well? Sure! That's why. I don't think it would work well with some other government more similar to our neighboring countries. Those don't seem to be as fine. For example, Hamas was elected by the palestinians in Gaza. What guarantees if the whole land belonged to them, they wouldn't just elect Hamas anyway. I wouldn't want to be under them no. I'm not even sure they respect us Christians like the Jews do. I'm tired of seeing news of authoritarian countries mistreating Christians. Israel the way it is now is just fine for us.

I don’t understand the “we’re the only people who are denied self-determination” argument from the Israeli side. Happy to discuss the idea and if I’ve misunderstood the argument, please let me know. Let’s discuss! The Indigenous Peoples of the Africa, Americas, Asia, and Oceania were routinely murdered or forcefully relocated. The Atlantic Slave Trade saw millions of Africans abducted to build what is now the USA. During the Cold War, the USSR and the USA forcing their political and economic values on countries through proxy wars. China is currently putting Uyghurs in “re-education camps”. Not to mention, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The International Monetary Fund exploit already over-exploited countries. In Guatemala, where I’m from, Canadian mining companies are CURRENTLY forcefully relocating the Maya (my people) to satisfy Canadian economic interests. I could go on and on. I don’t know if people with this view of Israel are willfully ignoring these and countless other examples or if they’re just ignorant. I just don’t get it.

@Aivottaja And ignorance has no space in this nuanced conversation. If you did not know, Judaism is NOT a religion, or atleast in the conventional sense. To think it is is foolish and you'll never understand the aspirations of modern Jews. Jews are an ethno religion, meant they are a religious group, but also an ethnic group. A Nigerian Christian and a Hong Kong Christian are completely different people in every sense, besides religion. A Jew from Poland, a Jew from Spain and a Jew from Iraq all share DNA and common heritage, in ancient Israel.
Aivottaja
Aivottaja Vor 11 Monate
@JD Visuals Unless none of that proves what I've repeated, I'm not interested. You can't prove descendancy from Judah, not even of specific tribes. The tribes were scattered around the world centuries ago. Even the descendants of Genghis Khan have more of a valid claim to his territories based on their DNA than you.
Aivottaja
Aivottaja Vor 11 Monate
@JD Visuals Again, that doesn't change anything. There is no proof of descendancy of Judah, not even of specific tribes. Religion has nothing to do with DNA, so one can only wonder why you'd mix that to your response.
