I love how the guy mentions the protein percentage similarly to how Jeremy would tell the lap times in that show that nobody can remember....

I think farmers hated it to start with because they said it was a mockery to farming. They ended up loving it for what you said.

He could've haggled, but Charlie said good quality wheat is £185 and the milling company gave that exact figure, plus the boss most likely took out any further negotiation by telling Jeremy that he wasn't an expert with wheat, so he doesn't have any legs to stand on for hiking prices.

I think the thing his critics constantly and spectacularly miss about Jeremy is the fact that, whilst the accuse him of being a bombastic, offensive oaf, he would be the first to tell you that and take it on the chin. He’s one of the few who’s at least halfway honest about who he is. What you see is what you get.

Clarkson's farm should be on in in place of country file, this just blows it into the weeds with facts, truths and of course the best of banter!! Countryfile quite frankly has gone to the dogs!
Admiral_Awesome
Admiral_Awesome Vor Monat
Well it's been said that Clarkson has done more good for farming in one 10 episode series than 30 years of countryfile. Might be because he's actually talking about the hardships faced by most crop farmers in the UK. Rather than some weird niché things that no-one else has heard of.

it just goes to show how pricing works, £185 per ton, so that is £0.185 or 18.5 pence per kilo, and by the time is has made it through the supply chain it's like £2 a bag.

Not very good haggling, the price of milling wheat is £100 a tonne more than he was offering. The good news is that he'll mill and bag it and then Jez can sell it in his farm shop for the equivalent of £1500 a tonne to the Range Rover crowd who think its achingly trendy to buy from him.
FRED MERTZ
FRED MERTZ Vor 20 Tage
@AlkalineGamingHD he may not have enough wheat to silo it. And he may not have a silo on the farm.. that's why he pays the higher price. He just passes it on to the consumer.
AlkalineGamingHD
AlkalineGamingHD Vor 20 Tage
He said that in the video. They would buy it mill it and send a cut back to be sold in the shop. This potentially accounts for the price difference What also does is the local markets. Not sure where you're getting those prices. Is it in the Cotswold like Jeremy? Some farms I know store grain in silos and sell during high times. If Jeremy went direct to market soon after harvesting season then the prices is likely the lowest in the year. Mostly spitballin

@adam Doesn’t he also have a stake in DriveTribe and FoodTribe? I saw something on the latter’s channel about Mr. May’s own brand of gin, which he might have staked a little cash on. No show based on it (yet) though.
