Everyone always ignores how Peter was just as bad. He kisses MJ when he knows she’s dating his best friend. He tries to get with MJ when he knows she’s engaged. He tells Gwen Stacey to kiss him while he’s dating Mary Jane. Even worse, it was the same upside down way he kissed Mary Jane for the first time, and he does it right in front of her! Why is nobody decent to their partner in these movies?
@Takiya Ather Yes. That is what I said? Harry knew he was in the wrong for not telling Peter and apologized for that. Though to me this looked more like continuously putting off telling Peter than intentionally keeping secrets from him. But he wasn't in the wrong for asking MJ out. Peter had had several years to make a move but never did, and Harry had no reason to believe he was ever going to. Peter, although clearly upset, agrees that it's more or less his own fault for not acting on his feelings.
@Hunter Lawrence huh? I’m saying harry knew peter like mj Lmaooo. Harry confessed he liked her and went for her because peter never made a move lol. Look it up
*She was toxic but so was Peter, throughout the first 2 movies he basically leads her on and off and pursues her even though she’s dating his best friend and the 3rd movie he also cheats on her although kiss wasn’t serious it’s still cheating their whole romance/relationship is probably the weakest part of the trilogy we don’t even get to really know why peter even likes her other than she’s hot and was his childhood crush LOL* 😂
He didn't lead her on, he never made a move. Harry knew Peter wouldn't and then started to date her. Harry actually violated the bro code first knowingly. And he kissed Gwen after MJ wasn't exactly able to keep her own tongue in her mouth at all. He might have just assumed it was a nothing thing in their relationship cause he's a naive dork. Okay that is less defendable, like wtf. But yes their relationship is still toxic ass man
@Google Account I’m not a guy so I don’t what the “bro code” says, but I do know that if Peter never acted on his feelings after 14 years Harry is perfectly justified in asking MJ out.
@maryam tanveer It's.. a gen z thing.. I watched their kiss moment in Far From Home and felt so.. what's the word..? I felt like I could deeply relate to what was going on in theie dialogue. One of the last things Peter says is "I'll go-... yeah.. I dunno" and I swear to you, that is the same shit that I do.
@G L O R Y Thats bc everything was forced in the last movie to make the ending is perfect... In the last two films... Zendaya was literally nothing. And that final kiss wasn't much in 2
@Synonymous Legion She never cheated on Flash. She did kiss Peter while she was with Harry, but it’s a movie from 2002 and Peter is the protagonist. It’s dumb, but you’re just kinda expected to suspend your disbelief. Spider-Man 3 REALLY screws up by treating the cheating like a serious thing (which it is in real life) because they just ignored it in the first two.
@fatoumata cisse That still doesn’t make MJ any better since she’s the one who outright abandoned JJ’s son during a wedding. Not to mention, she cheated on Flash Thompson to Harry, then Peter, then Harry, then Peter, then JJ’s son, then Peter, then Harry, & back to Peter. Peter on the other hand only did it once for a public stunt as opposed to a personal whim.
Seriously, glad they made the new mj an actual decent human being, more than that, she actually helps Peter too on multiple occasions. Old mj was pure toxicity
@d3moncruz Everyone is written terribly in Spider-Man 3, I honestly have no idea what they were thinking with some of those scenes. But in the first two movies MJ does a lot of things that seem bad, but that’s because you’re seeing the story through Peter’s eyes. If you look at it from her perspective her actions make a lot more sense: she’s mistreated by everyone, who all keep yelling at her, lying to her and trying to make her decisions for her. She gets mad at Peter for some of the stuff that happens as a result of him being Spider-Man, but unlike the audience, she doesn’t know he’s Spider-Man. From her perspective, some of Peter’s actions do seem pretty crappy without that information.
To be fair, MJ was fine in Spider-Man 1&2 apart from all the cheating that was for some reason thrown into those movies. But she’s written horribly in Spider-Man 3, along with everybody else.
I love the Raimi movies, especially Spiderman 2. It's undoubtedly one of the best CBMs ever made. But God Mary Jane is a horrible love interest. Gwen (Emma Stone) > MCU MJ > Mary Jane
When me and my siblings were binge watching the Toby spiderman movies, my sister kept on calling mj a a 2 time, 6 time,30 time cheater for each movie and I also called her a cheater
SM1: Harry was with MJ only to impress his father SM3: Peter kissed Gwen in front of MJ and the whole city and later basically told her to get lost when she tried to support him.
@Mr.Riddler Peter cheated on MJ (on the same day he was going to propose!) then didn’t understand why she was upset with him for it, let his best friend fall into a self destructive spiral (in an attempt to honor Norman’s dying wish, but that mess lead to at least four people dead including Harry) kept talking about himself whenever Mary Jane tried to vent to him, tried to get her to cheat on her fiancé, made out with MJ while he knew she was dating his best friend, and all of that was BEFORE the symbiote. Harry told her how to dress because he wanted to impress his father, defended his father when he called MJ a gold digger, got drunk and caused a huge scene at her boyfriends return party where she got engaged, literally hit Peter during that, refused to reconsider his hatred of Spider-Man after he literally saved his life, made a deal with Otto inadvertently getting an entire train full of people almost killed and MJ kidnapped, along with half the city nearly being destroyed. And all that was before he became the new Green Goblin. Ironically, the only person who has an excuse for the cheating scenes was technically the villain. Harry kissed MJ when he knew she and Peter were dating, but he had the same serum in his system that turned his father into a mass murderer so I guess he wasn’t really himself when that happened. Peter and Mary Jane can’t say the same.
@flame the hedgehog I’m not saying MJ is good, but I think her and Peter are pretty even in terms of how they treat each other. What did MJ do that’s so much worse than anything Peter did?
@Conserz Tasfia007 Gwen> MCU MJ. The woman literally lost her life to loyalty. She was so loyal it was contagious 💀 her dad caught the loyalty in the first movie and paid the price too
Fun fact: in the comics they tried their best to make MJ super trashy because Spiderman was always supposed to end up with Gwen but all the readers were super obsessed MJ for some reason.
I had realized that when I was a kid. And I was like "whoa, this woman just doesnt care" I always like Kirsten Dunst but never really liked MJ as a characther
“Harry please, look at her. You think a woman like that is sniffing around because she likes your personality? Your mother was beautiful too they’re all beautiful until they’re snarling after your trust fund like a pack of raving wolves.” *Norman was right lmao*
For all those saying Norman wasn't right about MJ being a golddigger: Being a cheater is just as bad, if not worse, than being a golddigger. If anything, Norman was right in the sense that she is selfish and an opportunist.
Seriously, glad they made the new mj an actual decent human being, more than that, she actually helps Peter too on multiple occasions. Old mj was pure toxicity
Yes thank you thank you yes the old MJ was pretty toxic and she did not help Spider-Man/Peter Parker but the new MJ actually helped Spider-Man/Peter Parker multiple times so does his best friend In the movie Jacob also helps to and the old MJ in the old Spider-Man/Peter Parker no one but Peter Parker helped
Yeah, I honestly never was a fan of Tobey’s MJ and thought that they weren’t too good together. I love Tom’s MJ though and Andrew’s Gwen cause they honestly have so much chemistry with each other and aren’t toxic like Tobey’s MJ can be
@softg0redraws venom doesn’t ever directly trigger Spider-Man’s spider sense because he was once a part of him. I imagine if he throws a projectile or something then it would but if venom were to sneak up and punched Peter, it wouldn’t trigger
Hm yeh I agree. Gwen and peter's relationship was so good it was sweet as sugar. But Zendaya's development in being mj got more open and we see peter and MJ having a cute time. Their relationship was amazing in no way home
TBIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT OMG! I love tobey and his movies and he’s my favorite spider-man but gwen stacey is my favorite lover from the movies. This is because Gwen never cheated on anybody or did anything that MJ did.
Mcu Peter and mj were so awkward in far from home and I love it! It’s so accurate to how teens act when they confess! It’s so relatable and it makes it so cute!!
I kinda love that MJ is problematic and toxic in those movies cause it's even more entertaining shouting at the screen "leave that bitch spiderman! She belong to the streets!" 😂😂
@XG No. Mary Jane has famously been known to consider Spider-Man a downside of her relationship with Peter. She loves Peter more. It's Black Cat that only(well mostly) cares about the Spider side of Spider-Man
I like that they did the multiverse thing to make every Spider-Man canon. So it makes sense mj looks different than portrayed in comics and the original films
The thing that personally bothered me was that she was always in danger and needed Spider-man to save her. Like once or twice would've been cool but she was in danger in every climatic moment of each film, it's not really her fault but I wish the writers would've done something else to add stakes to the plot.
My hubby and I decided to rewatch all the Spider-Man movies (Tobey Maguire's), and we realized the same thing. Lmao. It's so different watching childhood movies, when you're older.
And somehow Tobey's Peter is still trying to make it work with his MJ even in No Way Home. With all that Spidey sense he got going around, he's still an oblivious simp at heart.
I don’t think people realize that she was abused her whole life by every man who entered. She was neglected by Harry, and also by Peter. MJ is really good in Raimi’s films. She is a character who is flawed and she isn’t what we’d want Peter’s girl to be exactly. Peter also isn’t the perfect man for MJ as he’s always busy. I think it’s stupid to say she’s a bad character just because she makes some bad choices.
"You can either save your bouncy girlfriend who s been with at least 3 people the first movie alone or you can save these kids you never meet in your life" -Willem Dafriend
If anything this shows how poorly Mj’s character was written/ handled and how she was just a pawn for other characters and their development. Glad that the industry is at least attempting to give female side characters some depth.
You, like millions of people watching this video, completely overlooked the fact that Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man was supposed to continue for 3 more movies after Spiderman 3. Mary Janes character feels unfinished BECAUSE the franchise was canceled after Spider-Man 3. Stop spouting hate about a fictional character that never got the chance to evolve and develop the way she should have.
Agreed with everything except that last sentence. Michelle Jones in the MCU was an extremely forced relationship that came outta nowhere. Her character was extremely mediocre and honestly, even if she did die, it probably wouldn't have saddened me. Gwen was the best.
And somehow Tobey's Peter is still trying to make it work with his MJ even in No Way Home. With all that Spidey sense he got going around, he's still an oblivious simp at heart.
The only thing I can say is is the actress that plays her is phenomenal even as a child actress she was phenomenal if I'm not mistaken she's the one who played Claudia Interview with the Vampire write to me that was her best film ironically that was when she was a child so good actress but I agree about the character Mary Jane
@Galih Pambudiarto "How could you give her a kiss for the cameras that's cheating" "Oh I thought kissing didn't count as cheating if I was masked and my identity was a secret.... what's your excuse, then?"
I caught this after re-watching the original Spider-Man movies and I was utterly shocked because he was so utterly in love with her that he couldn't see that she was literally for the streets
