I truly believe Disney missed a major chance for a better R2-D2 cameo to happen in this episode where R2 could have been on the platform when Obi-Wan brought back LOLA ....and i say that because R2-D2 is known not to having his memory wiped from the point of Anikin having him and even after...the reason why is R2-D2 has shown whatever secrets he has in his memory R2 would never give it up...unlike Chatter Box C3PO who has had his memory wiped 3 times

@The Eternal firstly until Disney have been doing it with marvel and star wars 6 episode seasons were never used for these kind of franchises. Secondly They use 6 episodes because the cost of 6 episodes is roughly the cost of a movie Thirdly most viewers would not have watched rebels so it is new to them. In the grand scheme of things people like yourself who probable claims to have read everything seen everything star wars and knows all the canon is a very very small proportion of their subscribers and lets be honest you would find a problem with any star wars show that is not the original series

When Vaders mask is sliced open by Obi wan you can truly see how Vader really has destroyed Anakin just by looking at his eyes, it’s almost zombie like, Honestly the acting in that scene from both Hayden and Ewan is simply incredibly, I had tears in my eyes and I can’t usually cry because of the medication I’m on!

Sean Ngyuen Vor 13 Tage
@Darkstar Personally the way I saw it was: Obi-Wan, realizing that his friend/brother Anakin was no longer there, did not feel a need to finish off Vader. Before, he might have regretted not killing Anakin on Mustafar because of the pain he witnessed Anakin go through, but now that Anakin is truly gone in his mind, it's almost like he is fighting someone else entirely. Now sure, logically it doesn't make sense why he would not kill Vader from a safety standpoint, knowing what Vader is capable of, but I suppose some of that could be chalked up to the whole "Jedi philosophy" of defending life instead of taking it. Could be argued many ways, but personally I thought it was fine.
Hunterios Vor 13 Tage
@Darkstar yeah not finishing him was a little weird
Darkstar Vor 13 Tage
@Hunterios This is what I don't understand. We know there's a lot of Anakin left in Vader at this point. And we know that even at the end in Return, there's still Anakin in there. Yet for some reason, they choose to show us Obi truly believing that his friend is dead... and letting him go regardless, not finishing him off, knowing what destruction he will continue to bring to the galaxy. This was the perfect opportunity to show us that even Obi had some doubts about the darkness in Vader and they wasted it. And if Obi is that much of a pacifist, he could have at least try to take Vader as a prisoner. Letting him go makes no sense UNLESS he believes Anakin is still there, which we're shown that he absolutely does not believe it. This moment was extremely contradictory and just awfully planned.
lpycb42 Vor 13 Tage
My most favorite part is how, when Anakin tells Obi-Wan he did it to himself, the blue light is shining on him, because Anakin is still in there. Once he lets that out and finally accepts it to himself too, and tells Obi Wan he will destroy him as Vader, he goes back to full red light. I just LOVE that imagery.
Jeff L.
Jeff L. Vor 14 Tage
I always struggled with how PT Anakin and Darth Vader seemed like different people. I know that’s kind of the point, but they were so different that I wasn’t even feeling that one evolved from the other. This series - and in particular that fight - helped bridge that gap for me.
Kent Keeler
Kent Keeler Vor 7 Tage
@Ste Of course it made more sense at the end. She was a new character we knew nothing about and needed context for. It's in my opinion that you can't use Vader too much otherwise his menacing presence would be taken away from. Vader is quite literally one of the most terrifying villains in cinema history BECAUSE we have all READ about his existence and what he has done, but we never got the terror of seeing it first hand. Think like a story by the campfire. He's the Boogie Man of Star Wars. That's half of his terrifying aura. We also knew going into the show that Vader was going to be a supporting villain, despite being the well-known big bad of the verse. We knew it was going to be more about the Inquisitors, which fans were really excited about until everyone freaked out at Episode 2 thinking Disney rewrote canon and killed off the Grand Inquisitor. From there, it was all downhill and people on DE-vid and Reddit hated on the show until the finale.
Ste Vor 7 Tage
@Kent Keeler I think revas story made more sense towards the end of kenobi series. At the start it was annoying seeing her character when all you wanted was wanted was obj wan and vader , it gave the impression that she was the main character. I think the first few episodes could have been directed/written Better regarding her character. In the end, I must admit I started to like her and it made sense why she was pissed off with vader
Kent Keeler
Kent Keeler Vor 8 Tage
That was exactly how Reva felt at operation Nightfall. Here comes one of the greatest Jedi to ever live, a wartime hero, the chosen one to end all chaos and death in the galaxy, in a time where an assault on the temple has been waged and the war you grew up learning about is suddenly raging right outside your door, only for him to not be everything you heard about, and he starts slaughtering everyone around you. People hated on Reva’s story arc but honestly, I liked it a lot
Łuki Vor 12 Tage
@Tr0nzoid The real life is that if there's someone who really loves you and one day becomes your enemy, they'll equally hate you.
Ste Vor 13 Tage
Yep I was the same, I could never imagine anakin in that darth vader suit, seem like different people , but this Scene helps
Darkness1984 Vor 14 Tage
That scene between Vader and Obi-Wan was one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. And the way Vader smirked as he said he was the one who killed Anakin? That was just brutal. Shows how evil Vader truly is. And also; Obi-Wan in ANH: “He betrayed and murdered your father.” Vader in Obi-Wan finale: “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker; I did.” Gotta give the writer’s credit, that really was beautifully done. Bravo

@anycullen21 I think that's very easy to iron out because it's obvious that Vader is talking about metaphorically killing Anakin during the fight with Obi-Wan. In ESB, he is trying to win Luke over, and at that moment can't afford to be metaphorical about it, because Luke believes they are two physically separate people. So... he's obviously going to drop the charade for the purpose and be Anakin for a second.
anycullen21 Vor 14 Tage
@Elisha Wilson when you put it like that, yeah, it makes sense

When Vader says **"I am not your failure"** , his face is covered in blue light as if Anakin Is accepting the apology from Obi wan . Then his face turns red , when Vader returns with darkness . This was so symbolising in a way that even though He's Darth Vader there's is still some Anakin left in him only those who really know him can take out .(Another instance Ashoka ) and Finally Master Qwai Gon for 5secs after two and a half decades Overally what a great short series which greatly connects the events , also keeping the characters comically accurate . I will be not mad or sad if we don't get a season 2 .

She wasnt vain, but she also wouldnt stand by a man who butchers innocents for his evil master. Again were she alive, I doubt Vader would stay 20 years by Palpatines side. She woulve tried harder than Obi wan to bring him back, and if she failed depends how hard Vader would resist the light. It was her death that proved to him Palps had lied
Darren Kerr

@Lissell Paredes Folks forget that Leia's been facing death from the get-go. She's in active rebellion against a violent Empire. People have died before their time around her. People have died *defending* her or just to push some goalpost. How many people died at the end of Rogue One to get one blueprint to her? She's a hardened bad ass. Kenobi died as an elderly man in a sword fight. She's not falling apart over that. Luke's a farm kid who never saw war, knew maybe a dozen people, and just saw his only connection to off-planet life die. It's emotionally complex but the story *does* make sense.

This was definitely the best episode of the series. I was not ready for the emotional impact of it. My heart broke when Obi Wan tearfully apologized for everything and we got James Earl Jones’ voice layered with Haiden’s. It was perfect and very reminiscent of Rebels. And the duel itself was awesome! I personally loved Reva’s arc and how things worked out for her too. I got a little teary when she was crying and feeling so much remorse and guilt and Obi Wan comforted her. I think you’re right, he almost def wishes he had that kind of interaction with Anakin after the duel. And freaking Palps! That made me happy. Same with my man Qui Gon. I was starting to worry he wouldn’t appear, but I’m so so glad he did. I’m also glad a lot of the plot holes were filled in. I’m almost positive Luke didn’t see Reva’s light saber. Oh and he finally said the line! I laughed with delight at that.

"General Kenobi you served my father in the clone wars" was probably a way to talk to Obi-Wan without revealing he was also "Ben". If someone evil found the message the message would not 'out' Ben's secret. Also, it makes it seem like Leia did not know/ meet General Kenobi. So it separated him from her past.

There's actually a line in a deleted scene from the OT where Luke is talking to his friend Biggs, and Biggs says something along the lines of "Luke your uncle cold hold back an entire tribe of sandpeople by himself" If anything, this show proved it: Ben and Beru are scrappers when it comes to protecting their own. As they should be, naturally! It's kind of funny to me how Beru was more ready than Owen was! Like "Oh, they're coming for my nephew? Okay, get the sawed offs and let's go!" 8:30 the answer to that question lays with the Grand Inquisitors quote of, "revenge does wonders for the will to live". As the dark side feeds off emotions, revenge being one of the strongest, those that use its power tend to survive much more than Jedi. As well, Qui-gon was the one Jedi to rediscover force ghosts. So when Maul bested him he was already ready to pass onto the after life, he no longer needed to be alive and so he passed on more peacefully than the anger fueled "lives" of the Dark Siders usually live.
Cornelius crewe

I think it actually makes Anakin death more powerful as well. Darth Vader survived many times over by harnessing the dark side, but Anakin Skywalker could not (or would not) draw on the dark side following his redemption.
arkez35 Vor 13 Tage
FINALLY someone who gets it!!! Even Palpatine himself says it in Revenge Of The Sith: "The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural." The power to defy killing wounds and death itself is one of those abilities. Many Sith and Dark Side users have accomplished this. Maul and Vader being the biggest Canon examples of this.

Many people forget what's after the ending of that quote, because it's nothing. There is also nothing that discredits Leia & Kenobi having talked before the events of ep4.

@Magaly Wing This was way back to Mark Hamill’s earlier acting days so he probably couldn’t nail it quite well. Now his reaction to Ben dying is reasonable, it was at that point when Ben died, Luke lost everyone he cared about. You could say he kept his emotions in check to focus on saving Leia. When Ben died, again everyone he cared about has died and his emotions just erupted.

@GameStation3 It didn't show is all I'm saying. He looked like his favourite sports team had just lost or something. Like slightly disappointed but certainly not heartbroken. He is way more sad about Obi-Wan dying and it doesn't really make sense to me.

What i adore most is Leia herself and her actress, not only was her performance amazing at such a young age, but knowing Carrie Fisher and the legacy she left behind, knowing who Leia becomes in the future - a rebel, a fighter for the people, fighting against the Empire - something about this all just made me really tear up in joy. :)

I’ve said it before, but Darth Vader's breathing has to be one of the most terrifying sounds in movie & tv history. When he wants to ignore the others and go after Ben, the Grand Inquisitor starts giving him the whole "he’s just one Jedi" speech, and when Vader starts with the breathing, I’m thinking "Let t go, man! Just shut up!" 😱

An awesome performance moment by Hayden. Super creepy and subtle having him smile at obi-wan when confessing to killing Anakin. Gives us a glimpse into what might be going on under the mask when Vader is completely covered. Glad Hayden could come back with a solid redemption.
BobPants SpongeSquare
With regards to when Vader later says "Obi Wan once thought as you do" I think it works. During this fight scene Obi Wan is indeed trying to reach out and apologize to Anakin but Vader doesn't want an apology. He said he killed Anakin, not Obi Wan, so pretty much there's no point in trying to reach out to Anakin since he's gone
tateria Vor 13 Tage
Yessss! Obiwan goes from “I’m sorry, Anakin” to “Goodbye, Darth”, verbalizing his acceptance that Anakin Skywalker (“the good man I knew”) is dead. It’s a peace that he only could find once he re-centered himself in the force while in the pit - he lets go of his fear and guilt (the flashbacks voiceovers) and finds peace in thinking about the twins.

I think this continues the trend of most of the Disney star wars products. Quite a few flaws, some poor decisions, and some downright confusing decisions. But there's also some outstanding moments, there's some perfect scenes, and there's a lot of great acting. I hope we get a season 2. Ewan deserves it.

@Billy Regin Gotta agree with Green Greeneya. ATOC is better than all three sequel movies combined. As for letting Reva live, killing someone in cold blood, especially a former youngling who has faced such horror and despite that ultimately does not succumb to evil, is absolutely not the Jedi way. Ultimately I believe it shows how powerful Obi-Wan truly is that he trusts the Force, especially the living Force. I don't think it's a coincidence that's when Qui-Gon shows up. I mean, he's the one that was considered a bit of a rebel in the Jedi order. But that was to an order that was slowly losing their way, especially during the clone wars where they turned more into warriors than priests. For me those moments in this episode where he lets both Vader and Reva live show that Obi-Wan can finally shake that Clone Wars soldier side of himself and become a true Jedi again the way his master taught him.

The use of the music is perfect to me. The music from the original trilogy is like a delicate spice - only a tiny bit is needed at the right moment. So glad that they only referred in passing to Padme as Obi-wan wouldn't want to even think of her anywhere near Vader in case he led Vader to the kids through his thoughts. Most kids wouldn't remember a stranger they met for 5 minutes years ago & their family never mentions, so Luke not remembering Old Ben makes sense. This series reminded me of the movie Casino Royale with the new 007 collecting his Bond traits and gear until he was finally 007 - only then did he get the 007 theme music. I wonder how much of the cast (Reva, the Inquisitors and the proto-rebels) will appear in Andor.

I loved that obi used thoughts of Luke and Leia and wanting to protect them as his strength when buried and it gave him faith to beat Vader. Hello Nikki & Steven .... The fight between Vader and Kenobi was epic. If you notice, every stoke or swipe from Anakin is a kill shot. He always goes for the head o vital organs. While Obi-Wan always deflects and redirects the blows coming at him. He wears down his adversary while Anakin constantly tries to overcome them. Kenobi shows Anakin how strong he can be, when he finally fully re-embraced the Force Reve has her trying moment of choice. If she kills Luke, she becomes Anakin, the person she hates for who he has become. And she couldn't do it. She could not kill a child. I don't think she knows that Luke, or Leia, are Anakin's/Vader's children. But that knowledge does come to light in later years after Return of the Jedi; during Heir to the Empire: the Thrawn Trilogy. FYI.... For those who know and don't know Quigon is leading Obi-Wan into Beggers Canyon in the final shot.

I knew they would end this perfectly. Ep 1 & 2 were brilliant so I knew they would stick the landing at the end. They really tied up ALL the loose ends, making sure this connects well with the original trilogy. You can tell they rewatched the films and made sure quotes from Leia, Vader, etc fit in with what happens here. They also pulled from the prequels so well. And bringing back the music at those touching moments at the end. There was so much good stuff that I forgot Qui-Gon completely and was surprised when he showed up. I cried at like 3-4 different points in this episode at least.

When Leia asks "Will I ever see you again?" it had a very similar inflection (especially on the word "again") to when Anakin asked the same question to his mother before leaving with the Jedi. That was some of the best subtle acting I've ever seen from a child, or anyone. I don't know if it was intentional, but it was brilliant

The reaction that I've been waiting for! Fantastic reaction you two! 😊 Absolutely loved this episode! 11:07 The only time that I can recall Leia wearing a gun holster during the OT was in ROTJ during the battle on Endor. From here on out, I'm just going to say that it was Talia's. LOL! Finding that out will be a good excuse to watch movies later today. We got to see Owen and Beru fighting together to protect Luke. The EPIC Obi-Wan vs. Vader rematch. A redemption for Reva. Obi-Wan telling Leia how she inherented so many wonderful qualities of her parents, Padmè and Anakin. Obi-Wan then telling Leia, Bail, and Breha that if they ever need him they know where to find him. Obi-Wan getting to meet Luke. And finally the legend himself, Liam Neeson's cameo as the Force Ghost Qui-Gon. Thank you for your reactions. As to being stabbed through the body by a lightsaber. People do survive being punctured through the body if no vital organs are hit. The lightsaber also cauterizes the wound so a person would not bleed out. The difference between Reva, The Grand Inquisitor, and Qui-gon is that Qui-gon likely had a vital organ punctured and the other two did not. This also explains why Owen and Beru actually put up a defense against Reva and she did not walk over them with superior offensive capability and her force abilities. Her force abilities were likely all that was keeping her standing and even her physical prowess was much diminished due to the wound.

I feel like they’re gonna go for this overall rule of the force, where Sith can live/resurrect/etc through the power of pure hatred/revenge/evil; meanwhile, light side users can do so out of compassion, and a willing sacrifice. Idk, I kinda like it. It also adds weight to the fact that Obi Wan couldn’t save Qui Gon in episode 1, the way Ben did with Rey, because he wasn’t strong enough.
