You look good in that Kubota Andrew, nice work on the cutting edge.

T1 steel is what you have there young man. It is an American standard for cutting edges. Also, you will find it cuts differently, and grinds differently as well. But it will last and last and last.

Next thing you should buy is an overhead crane so you can hold up things to work on like what you're doing now. You can never be too safe.
Jack Caldwell
Just dont know why you didnt cut a angle into the blade when you first cut it, would made one hell of a better cutting surface and ...... ahhh it doesnt matter ,no use trying to help anyone on youtube with advice anymore lol

can you not use a bolt on blade such as the dozers use?

That could be done. Its not that hard to change it though like that.

Andrew, I love to watch your videos. For a young guy you know so much about almost everything. You are a great example of hard work, discipline, motivation and dedication. I am sure your parents are proud of you. Please be safe and safety first. Take care.

some good winter projects.. i would love to run 220 but thats not going to be an option at my house... I don't weld that much anyway.. picked up one of those crappy 80amp throw away harbor freight mig welders.. flux core.. I mean it will weld but only small stuff.. I need to find out how to make the heat setting on it adjustable .. probably cost as much as buying a better one to do that

i love that you call it hardend steel, hehe yes there is some steel in it but its not hardend, its a mix of several hard metals,, in norway we call it HARDOX,, its a plate kutter killer if you try to cut it with a iron plate cutter becouse its almost as hard as the cutting knife.. but its perfect say for the shear of plows-ore excavators... www.ssab.com/products/brands/hardox/products/hardox-450

Although i highly disagree with your welding habits aka not cleaning literally anything.... i guess it shows that you really dont need to in all situations.... It makes me tense up and cringe like, when i see you weld stuff up like this blade lol.... BUT HEY, if it holds, it holds right? Keep up the good work bro!

The stick welder and cutting torch is all us old timers had and they served us well . But in the shop you can't beat a mig welder and plasma cutter ! Your are very good at what you do . Your hired !!! Thank you

Only thing I'd recommend is with cracks, typically you don't just want to throw a weld over top of it, Isn't usually a good or permanent fix, I'd recommend grinding the crack out completely, Then welding with high penetration, Maybe using a 6010 electrode or turning the amps up on your mig welder, Then get a nice deep penetrating bead layed in the gap that goes from toe to toe, then just stack beads on top of that making sure they penetrate into both sides and the underlying bead. But that may just be overkill, What you did may very well work out.

hard steel = steel with more "C" (carbon) tempered/treated with harding solution; please always clean the surface before you weld it (use some abrasive solutions) , it will help to improve the overall weld; good job overall

Wouldn't long tacks (Stitch Welding) be easier than fully welding the top of the cutting blade to the mild steel frame? That's how I welded wear bars on buckets when I welded in the 70s thru the 80s, saved on hard servicing rod.

I really love to read these comments from people that know what is going on in the world. I have watched all of your vids and read many many of the comments about dirt and compaction ad nausium only to figure out that these fine people haven't a clue about different dirts and their characteristics in what ever depths to solid rock will be. Some seem to know about their typical area but probably could not tell you what plasticity index or probability of vertical rise exists. I have been doing what you do for over fifty years and I can't possibly get as smart as some of your viewers. As for welding I'm sure that you are not going to build another floor on this little mini ex or going to pump high pressure gas through it. I can't imagine that this little tractor will ever generate enough force to tear even a badly done welding job. Keep doing what you do. Thanks for the vids.

To avoid warping the steel cut 12” leave 1/2” cut 12” and leave 1/2” and repeat. Let cool then cut all the 1/2” spots you left. Then the steel will stay straight for ya good buddy. 👍

I never welded so my question is - would it be best to run a sander or grinder on the old blade and the new piece of metal to clean them up before welding it in hopes to get the strongest weld ? I also think that if you doubled up the new edge you made with the other 1/2 you cut off = it would last a very long time !

see most guys would of seen that at auction and said , needs, a new , blade , teeth , hours too high ect, because they would not or could not do a simple , but time consuming repair on their own , that what sets you apart from a lot of others out there, , even take there was no quick change n the hammer or other bucket, most guys would not of bid, but there is now, and you got what you needed , for some of your past jobs, with out trying to rent one if one is even available when you needed it , or sub that part out,to some one else, and now even subbing of the plumber guy a few videos back ,,, thanks for sharing your journey ,,,
