watching this made me feel like a skilled Dentist working on a huge metal-tooth cavity... awesome!
Not to be nit-picky for the sake of it, but you're a tad incorrect about the plasma cutter. The tips are considered consumables and have to be replaced after a while. Granted, it's not often, but it does have to be done once in a while depending on how much you use it. I always have a couple spare tips for mine and have replaced them two or three times in the many, many years I have owned my plasma cutter.

That machine to be perfect should have one arm that slides to made it angle and on the corner so you could tilt and wait for it some way to slide the wholed bade over to use like a wing for pulling ditch lines. I've seen that option on any blade short of a grader. They are not intended for the blade anyway but a man can dream can't he?

When I was 19 I bought a Sears 295 Amp Stick Welder (AC only) and I still use it almost 40 years later ... mostly i burn 7018 AC rods ... but it tones down to 35 amps and can weld thin stainless as well for example ... I got Oxy Acet Torches the next summer at 20, I NEVER regret buying such important tools ... they have saved me literally tens of thousands of dollars over the years!

the proper name of steel you want for a cutting edge is T100 that little spring punch will never mark it, but you have to weld it on with low hydergen rod like an 8018 not not 7018 and no wire feed. or better, and no you cant shear cut T100
mme77 Vor Monat
That was a very nice repair. A good strong 220 volt mig welder and plasma cutter can make short work of a tough job, when the tools are in the proper hands!

Get rid of those mini excavators and haul that Hitachi to jobs. Nothing like seeing a man in an excavator and he looks like he's overfilling the cab, on some sort of child's toy. "Lets Dig" DE-vid channel operates BIG equipment. Andrew loves these little teeny tiny excavators. If I hire a guy to do a bunch of land maintenance, and I see a little toy excavator come in, I'd ask him to leave. Dude makes a shit ton of money though, he probably pockets at least a hundred grand a year, and that's HIS money, not money that he sinks into machine maintenance, he probably pockets 100 grand.

Why didn't you just wash the dirt from the blade instead of trying to suck it out. Btw wat air compressor do you use for that plasma cutter?

I guess those edges don't wear out that often. On the road grader the edge bolts on. But at the race track (horses) sand over clay they use straight, serrated and rubber edges and you might change them several times in a day

Those foam type ear plugs (e.g. 17:04) are designed to be squished, shoved right into the ear canal then held there with a light pressure as they expand again to fill the ear canal. That's if you want them to be effective at blocking noise. And yes that does mean they get waxy and nasty, which is why they are cheap even in 100pr packs, bin them after use. PSA from a now tinnitus sufferer.

Hey Andrew For what it's worth we went through grader blades like they were butter. I tried a set of new blades and built up the edge with Forney 42405 rods and it gave us 4-6 times the life. You'll need carbide or diamond wheels to dress it. I made a edge pass with 1/8 inch and capped it with 5/32. It is brittle but in our application we are saving 10 grand a month on cutting blades.
GeneSun Vor Monat
+Mark Fryer Yea but that was three Cat graders working 48 hours a week. and 7-8 sets of blades a month. and yes the Forney 42405 rod is hard as a file. And don't try to get a knife edge. A 1/4 inch edge and back bevel it about 10 degrees. Then run 7018 up the back edge about a half inch to give it some spring. And this was county gravel roads. Dirt work needs a finer cutting edge. We did our excacavator and gradall buckets the same. Took two guys and a couple thousand dollars in rod but saved about 100 grand a year in cutting surfaces.

A tip if you like, take a straight bit of angle and tack it to the job where you want to cut....take a grinder with cutting disc and score a line along the angle. That way you can see it with the plasma.... I tend to just disc right through as it requires no grinding and is ready to weld to.....
The Essex Hunter
The Essex Hunter Vor 2 Monate
+Andrew Camarata Yes, however the clean line makes a good area for the weld to run into. The last one i put on for a farmer was 90" long 8" deep and 1 1/2" thick with 7018 rods....

i love that you call it hardend steel, hehe yes there is some steel in it but its not hardend, its a mix of several hard metals,, in norway we call it HARDOX,, its a plate kutter killer if you try to cut it with a iron plate cutter becouse its almost as hard as the cutting knife.. but its perfect say for the shear of plows-ore excavators... www.ssab.com/products/brands/hardox/products/hardox-450
