The Disney movie, “Aladdin” is full of colorful, funny characters singing catchy songs as they fly around on a magic carpet. It’s a high-flying tale of romance, magic, and adventure. But what’s the real story behind this classic folktale?
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Disney’s remake of the animated story of “Aladdin.” But will Disney learn from the mistakes that they made in the past? This story has been around for centuries. But you will be astonished to learn how the story was created in the first place. It seems “Aladdin,” and all of the “Arabian Nights,” or “One Thousand and One Nights,” folktales were told as a desperate attempt to save the author’s life. We were able to uncover some pretty messed up facts about the real story of “Aladdin.” You’re not going to believe racist song lyrics Disney was forced to change after the animated film’s release.

. . . . wait what, this didn't really tell us anything about the actual story of Aladdin, just an origin about a woman who pretty much sounds made up herself. I mean, a homicidal king who kills and marries a different woman every night, but keeps one particular woman alive because she tells him stories? That sounds like a fairy tale within itself.

Everyone knew aladdin movie was racist or at least people from the middle east knew. The first thing I noticed when I was a kid is that the character who is supposed to be middle eastern did not speak middle eastern or even had an accent while the evil characters had. Second thing is that it includes stereotypes about arab people and their arabic culture which are obviously untrue. If the creator was arabic or persian it wouldn’t have had all these stereotypes. They do that and then call us muslims/arabs racist 😑. It’s true that the thief gets his hand cut but not one country stuck to that rule so it was only what was supposed to be done and never was done. If that was true u would’ve seen a lot of people with their hands cut but there isn’t any

I'm an Arab and *what the hell has the story of Shahrazad which is a whole other story (from 1001 Arabian nights) to do with Aladdin which was told by a Syrian storyteller?* Also, the king didn't want to kill her.. therefore she didn't tell him stories to rescue her own self, but she did because she didn't like him and didn't want to actually marry him (which he insisted to XD)

Yasy Kashefi Thanks for the reply Yasy :), yes I mean after they lost the war to their Arab neighbor ( which at that time they acted they same as Daesh today) but the Persian language was so strong which couldn’t be replace by the enemy language completely but their religion, their names, and their beliefs pretty much changed to the favor of their enemy. Maybe that’s why they had to repeat their history in 1979. I admire Persians for their awakening in the past 40 years but they need to be more aware and focus to see a brighter future. Materialistic ambitions behind people, even the good ones if they are not careful. Have a nice time 👋

There is no “real story” only an original book called Arabian Nights. It 1001 Nights. Scheherazade was not forced to marry the king, she did it as a self sacrifice in attempt to stop the king from killing his brides. She was very smart, and plained it out ahead of time. She was not even scared of him, or at least she never showed him that she was. She was confident her plain would work. The king wasn’t just some evil woman killer. He was paranoid. His first wife ever tired to kill him in his sleep on their wedding night and so him killing his brides was a way of protecting himself from them. Scheherazade made him listen to her, and care for her, and in the end fall in love with her. She turned him into a hero like the ones in her stories Aladdin and the magic lamp was on of her stories, and just one in 1001 stories she told him.

The man who tried to cut off Jasmine's hand didn't have a foreign accent at all. At least not an Arabic one. I don't know the actor's name, but he's actually been in a ton of movies and shows. People are just way too sensitive about everything these days. In many societies, especially in the east, and even before the spread of Islam, the cutting off of a thieves hand was common practice. People just need to stop the political correct BS and chill out.

Is no one else bothered that the narrator of the video didn’t actually read the book herself ? The woman didn’t tell the stories to her king she told them to her sister in her bedroom in earshot of the king who her father was working for. She literally demanded her father the Kings councilor to marry her to the king already knowing that he was murdering his brides at dawn in order to save the women of her kingdom. It is a testament to how much the culture respected a woman’s empathy and cunning and intelligence. The only reason the king was murdering his brides is because he was paranoid that they would betray him like his first wife.

Um... Shahrazad is also fictional... You guys framing this like it's not is probably because you're racist and are totally cool assuming Persian's are psychos... And then you spread it like it's true... it wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't part of a greater narrative of western superiority... If EVERY white person in history was framed as a psychopath (christopher colombus was actually a psychopath) it would color one's perception of the children of that empire. You probably won't understand this, and if you do, you'll probably take offence, but claiming this fictional tale is true and believing it is is just a sign of a larger problem...

Sadly most commentators are as misinformed as the people who made the video. The 'arabian nights' are not remotely arabic. Shahryar ruled as a fictional persian ruler over a part of central asia, india and china; while his younger brother ruled over samarkand (!). All this is far away from baghdad. To top this, he is a sassanid, not a muslim. '1001 nights' as a narrative frame takes place either in central asia or (northern?) india. The much later added story of aladin takes place mainly in western china. It's literally all in the stories themselves. All this nonsense in the disney version stems from it being a remake of the 1940's 'thief of baghdad' - one could call it 'american propaganda'. It is pure crap compared to the originals.
