Starbucks can be found all over the world, from Shanghai to Guantanamo Bay. But there is one continent that was uninterested in the coffee giant. Australians largely rejected Starbucks' attempted takeover, which led to an embarrassing retreat for the brand.

Bringing Starbucks to Italy (or Australia for that matter) is a bit like introducing Budweiser or Miller to Germany. No chance.

Weak excuse to blame the GFC in 2008, which had an extremely minimal effect in Australia. The true issue was too big, too fast; and that we know what good coffee is.

After the last comment about Starbucks instead trying to market to tourists in Australia, rather than the Australian people I am even less interested in trying their products.

Everyone hating on "America" like all we have is Starbucks.. We're DIVERSE. We can find authentic products from migrants anywhere in our United States. Hey Google: Australian coffee near me. Mic drop. They hate us cause they ain't us.

It failed thanks to our Italian immigrants who introduced us to real coffee and the culture that goes with it. We have no interest in drinking vats of the turgid dishwater or syrupy hyper-saccharine concoctions that Starbucks peddle as 'coffee.' Gloria Jeans' is equally as bad, patronized by people in mall food courts.

I once had a cup of coffee at a Starbucks in the Adelaide CBD. The brew itself was acceptable if nothing to write home about, and the ambience of the place more resembled that of a fast food chain than the "at-homeness" I've grown accustomed to in the high-quality owner-operated cafes that these days proliferate everywhere in Australia, even in outer suburbs and small country towns. Not much more to be said really.

I visited Canada earlier this year and thought the coffee scene there was terrible. Most Canadians love to drink "Tim Hortons" coffee but that stuff is disgusting. I couldn't wait to come back to Australian for a decent coffee.
JIM VAV
JIM VAV Vor 5 Tage
1294DS Ya, it’s weird...it’s because it’s typically bought with loads of cream and sugar so you don’t taste the coffee. Plus it’s cheap. And you can fatten up on doughnuts there. And it was a Canadian company. Lots of customers don’t even know it’s owned by a private equity company.

What's happening to our country?? Democratic candidate Joe Biden, actually said to the African American community , that if we don't vote for them, then we ain't black. That's the party that has taken us for granted, as if we are somehow beholding to them, for our own lives. This is a party with a slavery past. Check it out for yourselves and you will see the roots of this political party. They're not for us, they simply need our vote. That's where their solidarity ends. The Democratic Party has even put illegal aliens rights and concerns, before African American citizens born in this country. Their party has moved so far to the left, there's no more place to go, but socialism. To the Democratic Party, NO LIVES MATTER, more than THEIR OWN selfish ambitions. The Democratic party is ANTI-RELIGION, ANTI-FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and ANTI-AMERICAN. They will never have my vote again.

Even in OZ.... it is a bit surprising. But when I lived in Paris, I also did not go to Starbucks because I just want to enjoy local flavors and something cultural there. Starbucks is always the same in other countries. SB is already shrinking naturally, just like DEAN & DELUCA. Something global at a high cost was before something local at the lower cost. Global companies are already outdated or at least too much. If everything is the same in each country, is there any reason to travel abroad?! It is almost obvious that Milan doesn't need SB!!!! They are older and richer for coffee culture!! Why they made it in 2018?! It is too late too. It is like children's making coffee will sell to coffee professional!! Crazy

Starbuck's represents the "corporate" interpretation of 'coffee culture"; and does not represent the authentic coffee culture in the USA. I am from San Francisco which derives its coffee culture from the Italians (dark roast). Starbucks is looked down upon in San Francisco. Unfortunately, the rest f the world thinks that food in the USA is just fast or junk food & corporate chains.

(Why order from starbucks) people don't want to research other places that they don't know C) I have never received the wrong order from Starbucks b4 and I have been going there for quite some time.

AUSTRALIA A CONTINENT? Now I get why all of you are a bunch of geography dummies if not even de cnbc can get it right... smh
The Iron Chancellor
It is though, well its sort of is. Some people say Australia is the continent and Oceania compromises all the surrounding islands, others think Australia and the islands surrounding it are all Oceania or Simply 'The continent of Australia'. Australia itself is large enough to be its own continent, even if you add New Zealand and Papua new guinea, Australia is by far the largest and is ridiculously larger then the surrounding islands. So yes, Australia can be classified as its own continent...
